FITTING
IMPORTANT RULES
1. Prior to and during laying, each floor-panel should be checked for mechanical damage and color differences. Should be panels with defects be laid, the rights of warranty will be denied. The panels with defect found prior to fixing are subject to replacement with defect-free panels at your dealer.
2. In order to obtain the best visual effect, the floor-panels should be fixed in the direction of the main light source.
3. The laminated floorings form so called floating floor and therefore they must not be glued, nailed or otherwise fixed to the sub-floor.
4. Expansion gaps of 8-10 mm should be maintained between the floor and stationary perpendicular elements (pillars, door thresholds, pipes, walls, etc.) to allow for expansion or contraction due to chances in temperature and humidity. Spacing wedges should be used to keep the required gaps.
5.When the room length is over 8m or its width exceeds 6m, expansion gaps of 2-3 cm in width should be made (in proportional sections of the floor).
TOOLS AND MATERIALS
– a carpenter’s hammer, a mallet, a push -block, a spoon – lever, spacing wedges, a saw with fine teeth, a vapour-impermeable PE/PA film with a thickness of 0.2mm, ALFA WOOD backing mat with a thickness of 3 mm, baseboards, a pencil, a straight-edge, a measuring rule..
PREPARATION PROCEDURE
1. Prior to fixing, the laminate floorings should be stored for at least 48 hours in the room to be laid. Recommended conditions: temperature 18-220 C, relative humidity up to 70%.
2. The laminated floor – panels may be fixed only on flat, dry, clean and stable surfaces. Minor surface irregularities can be leveled with the ALFA WOOD backing
mat. Sub-floor irregularities higher than 3mm should be ground off or evened out.
3. The laminated floorings may be laid on various sub-floors. Particularly suitable are the following :ALFA WOOD OSB (tongue and groove joint), wooden floors ( the floor panels should be laid perpendicularly to the floor board axis), ceramics, linoleum, carpets with short piles, needled non-woven, PVC floor – coverings , concrete-jointless floor.
4. The previously evened out subfloor should be covered with a vapour –impermeable film (lap joint fixed with a moisture – resistant adhesive tape) and then with the ALFA WOOD backing
mat (butt joint).
INSTALLATION
1. The ALFA Flooring requires no glue! The first row of panels should be laid with the tongue towards wall, bearing in mind the expansion gap. Match panels very carefully. First click the longer edges positioning the panel at 20-30 ο angle and lowering the level. (See figure 2.4). Next match the shorter edges carefully with the hammer and push-block (see figure 1). 2. The panels in successive rows should be shifted to each other by minimum 40cm (staggered arrangement). The cut off portion of the last panel in the row becomes the first element of the next row. Thus, an optimal arrangement of floor-panels is obtained in strength and visual terms. ( see figure 3.6). 3. In order to properly join the last panel in the row, a pull-iron should always be used. 4. Laying the last row. Calculate the exact width of the last row of panels. To do this, lay a panel on the penultimate row of panels. Then lay a second panel with the groove to the wall on the panel to be measured and use it as a ruler. And please do not forget the wall clearance. Saw the panels to size according to the makings and slot in as described (see figure 7). 5. Once the last row of panels is laid, the new floor may be walked on immediately. Of course, the spacers should be removed and the gaps covered with the baseboards, fixing them only to walls with clamps.
FINAL REMARKS
1. The floor in use should be protected against sand and other abrasive materials-felt pads should be fitted to the feet of furniture. 2. Dirt and impurities can be easily removed wit a damp cloth rinsed in water. The laminated floor must not be wiped with wet cloth or sprinkled with water! Failure to observe the instructions given in the present manual can bring about damage to the floor and consequently loss of warranty..
*Every ALFA FLOORING code is available with imbedded underlay upon request.
